View FAQs on Present Waters’ Colon Hydrotherapy Services
The colon is the final portion of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It is approximately 5 feet in length. The main functions of the colon are absorption of water and minerals, and the formation and elimination of toxins and waste matter.
It will cleanse the colon with gentle irrigation of water to loosen impacted waste.
It provides hydration when water is gently infused into the colon. The extra hydration in the colon softens and loosen hard impacted waste that has adhered to the walls of the colon.
It stimulates the colon muscles. Impacted waste impairs the function of the colon. Colon hydrotherapy improves muscle function (peristalsis) in the colon.
Toxins and chemicals can be found in our living environments and in the air we breathe. We are all exposed to thousands of toxins and chemicals through our food and water supply. On average, we are eating more sugar and processed foods. With colon hydrotherapy, you are decreasing the toxins in your body and supporting your liver to function more efficiently.
Yes, the contraindications include: Cardiac disease (uncontrolled hypertension or congestive heart failure), aneurysm, severe anemia, GI hemorrhage, severe hemorrhoids, severe diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, cirrhosis, intestinal fissures/fistulas, advanced pregnancy, abdominal hernia, recent colon surgery and renal insufficiency. Please see our list of contraindications on our Services page.
It is always a good idea to consult your doctor, but a medical examination is not required. If you have a concern about your health or the appropriateness of colon hydrotherapy you should consult your doctor.Persons with certain medical conditions, however, should not have Colon Hydrotherapy. Please see our list of contraindications on our Services page.
If you are experiencing frequent headaches, colds, gas and bloating, fatigue, constipation, impaired digestion, candida, bad breath or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) you could benefit from receiving colon hydrotherapy. Colon hydrotherapy may also improve immunity and hydration, while lowering stress, congestion, and mental fogginess. Today’s diets consist of processed foods that are high in chemicals. Research indicates that eating these foods, as well as overeating, ignoring the call to eliminate, stress, allergies/food sensitivities and medications can contribute to poor colon health and constipation. Colon hydrotherapy may be valuable in minimizing the impact dietary and environmental stressors and toxins have on our digestive system.
We strongly recommend the following:
At least 24 hours before your session, follow the following regimen:
No carbonated or caffeinated beverages
No alcohol
No red meat
To enhance your colonic process, focus on eating fruits and vegetables
Avoid "gassy" food, such as beans, cabbage, onions, etc.
Please do not eat 2 hours prior to your colonic. Please do not drink heavily 1 hour prior to your session.
Absolutely. In fact, getting a colonic during your menstrual cycle is usually a good time to receive a treatment since your body is already in cleansing mode. Your flow will not interfere with the success of the treatment. We do not recommend wearing a tampon during your colonic.
AQUA-CLEANSE by Quality Medical Supply is an FDA Class II medical device. The AQUA-CLEANSE is widely known as the best device in its class.
We recommend wearing something comfortable that can be removed from the waist down. Comfortable pants/shorts and a top are preferable as you will remove everything from the waist down for your treatment. You will be given a disposable gown during your session.
During colon hydrotherapy a gentle infusion of water will enter the colon via the rectum. During the session, the client lies in a slightly inclined position on a treatment table. They are modestly covered with a disposable sheet to ensure complete privacy and comfort. A small disposable speculum is gently placed, through which warm, filtered water passes into the colon. Your colon hydrotherapist will use several fills and releases of water to dislodge toxic waste matter adhering to the walls of the colon, as well as to help stimulate peristaltic action (muscular contraction). The dislodged fecal impactions are then gently washed away through the system’s waste disposal hose. The process is enclosed and odorless.
The first session lasts approximately 90 minutes. This includes an initial intake evaluation to discuss your health history and goals. We explain the process step by step and answer any questions you might have regarding the colonic. The colonic itself can last anywhere from 30-45 minutes. Afterwards we will provide a general assessment of the session and give you an opportunity to ask any further questions. We offer individualized recommendations based on your session. Follow up colonic sessions are booked by the hour although you will be receiving the actual colonic for 30-45 minutes.
Most people describe their colon hydrotherapy session as being both refreshing and relaxing. Following our dietary guidelines prior to your colonic is a good way to avoid potential discomforts.
All materials, including nozzle and drapes are for one time use and are disposed of after each client. In addition, the FDA Class II cleared medical device (the hydrotherapy device) has a one way check valve to assure fresh, clean, purified water instillation. Additionally, we employ a clean-and-disinfecting protocol that uses the same hospital grade disinfectant that is utilized in some operating rooms.
After a session, many people report a sense of lightness, joy, mental clarity, and lessening pressure within the body. There is often a deeper capacity for breathing and a flattening of the abdominal area. You may experience easier eliminations, improved digestion, weight loss, and deeper relaxation.
The most common occurrence after a session is a slight delay in bowel movements for a few days, followed by easier, more frequent eliminations. Rarely, clients can experience detox-like symptoms, such as nausea, gas, and fatigue. This is attributed to the stirring up of toxic material and is usually a transient experience. Any discomfort will usually pass within 24 hours. If this occurs, be gentle with yourself, allow yourself to rest. Avoid alcohol, dairy, caffeine, sugar, spicy food, and fried food for at least 24 hours after the session. We encourage you to eat healthy food such as nourishing soups, soft foods, and steamed/cooked vegetables.
Usually clients release everything while they are in our office as there is time to finish on the toilet before you go. There can be exceptions to this, if you do not fully release during a session, you may release later in the day. Most clients continue their day without urgency to eliminate.
Absolutely. You can work just as you would after a normal bowel movement. In most cases Colon Hydrotherapy should not interfere with your scheduled day. Most clients report feeling refreshed and energized after receiving a colonic.
Each client has different needs and after a session we may suggest supplements that we think will help you and your colon. Products we might recommend include fiber, probiotics, and digestive enzymes. If you are on a cleanse or have specific constipation issues, we may suggest temporarily using herbs to support movement. Clients may already be taking appropriate supplements and sometimes clients may not need to supplement with anything!
Each client is different based on the degree of cleansing needed. Having one colonic is the first step towards renewed health and vitality. After your initial session, you can discuss with the therapist’s guidance as to how many and how often you might want to schedule sessions. We generally recommend doing a series of 3 colonics to appreciate what colonics can do for your body. Some people initially need a series or more to get the colon functioning well. For example, someone that has chronic constipation (less than 1 bowel movement per day) may need several sessions over the course of a few weeks. Maintenance sessions are recommended tocontinue all of the great benefits you have already given to your body with the initial session(s). The number of colonics you need depends on your goals, intestinal health, dietary habits and lifestyle choices. Clients may have maintenance colonics from every two week to once every three months. Everyone has different needs.
Colon hydrotherapy is designed to cleanse and hydrate the entire length of the large intestine (approx 5 to 6 feet). Colonics are more natural in that they stimulate peristalsis of the colon muscles and help to establish regularity. An enema only cleanses the first 1-3 inches of your colon. Laxatives generally contain drugs and chemicals that irritate the colon walls and are known for dehydrating the bowel instead of hydrating the system as with colon hydrotherapy.
Yes. In fact, with the modern advancements of today's colon hydrotherapy devices and standardization of training and procedures, colon hydrotherapy is often considered a safe alternative to laxatives and more effective than enemas. And, with the dangers of laxative overuse, colonics have a definite advantage and greater long-term benefits.
You will lose waste. Ridding the body of excess waste helps your body to metabolize more efficiently. You will become more conscious of what foods you are putting into your body and how your body processes those foods. We have seen many clients improve their diet and exercise regime when they start having colonics.
Actually, colonics have a toning effect on the colon. They stimulate the colon muscles and remind them how to work. Physically, colonics are not habit forming. Your body will not become reliant on them to eliminate.
Wait at least 6 weeks to heal and recover from a vaginal childbirth before having a colonic. You can have a colonic while you are nursing. If you are coming in because of constipation, a colonic is much better than a laxative. You don’t want your baby to feel the effects of a laxative if it is passed through the breast milk.
Unfortunately, colonics are not covered by medical insurance. Some flex-spending healthcare plans do cover colon hydrotherapy. Check with your provider.
